The Ninth Grade Academy exists to promote academic excellence and lifelong learning through partnerships between students, teachers, parents, and the community.
Rigor, Relevance and Relationships!
The White County Board of Education has implemented a Ninth Grade Academy (NGA) to focus on meeting the needs of ninth grade students. The NGA will be a bridge from the middle school to successful high school, college, and career experiences. The NGA attempts to ensure that students have the skills, desire, and confidence to succeed. The curriculum of the NGA is the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS). Students work on the traditional 3 R's while experiencing a variety of elective classes.
In addition to academic enhancements, students and parents will be able to explore career pathways through guidance services. The NGA is unique in its ability to assist in improving students' subsequent high school successes because we provide an intensive academic experience, with individual-oriented support and encouragement, in a more compact/efficient smaller learning environment. Our curriculum is the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS). Teachers follow the prioritized curriculum's essential knowledge and skills as to prepare students for the End-of-Course Tests (EOCT) in English 9, Physical Science, Biology, Coordinate Algebra, and Analytic Geometry. All core curriculum and many elective courses are available to ninth graders as they are available at White County High School.
The teachers selected for the NGA understand and enjoy teaching younger high school students (14 and 15 year olds). They want to provide their students a bridge between the 8th and 10th grades. The NGA teachers have positive attitudes and believe that each student can succeed. The staff is adventurous, trying new, creative and innovative instructional strategies, evaluation techniques, and discipline methods.
